High-Speed Chase Ends in an Arrest

A man suspected of a hit-and-run takes deputies through a neighborhood and eventually rams into a pole.

A report of a hit-and run turned into a high-speed chase in a San Juan Capistrano neighborhood Monday night.

At about 11:15 p.m., deputies first got a call of a hit and run in the 32000 block of Alipzaz Street, said Lt. John Meyer, chief of police services for San Juan Capistrano. The suspect vehicle was described as a silver car.

A few minutes later, deputies spotted a silver, 2008 Hyndai Elantra in the area, Meyer said. When they attempted to stop the driver, he fled northbound on Alipaz at a high rate of speed.

The suspect “turned into the Casa De Capistrano community (on Paseo Carolina) and continued to attempt to evade pursuing deputies in that community, driving through the alleys before eventually colliding into a pole,” Meyer said.

He then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended, Meyer said.
