Ladera Ranch's SmartStop Self-Storage Donates $25K for New San Juan Hills Baseball Scoreboard

School community "proud and excited" about new state-of-the-art scoreboard

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif./LADERA RANCH, Calif. -- March 19, 2014-- This month, SmartStop® Self Storage CEO H. Michael Schwartz presented Jeremey Wooten, head baseball coach for the San Juan Hills High School Stallions, and a handful of the team’s seniors with a $25,000 check for a new scoreboard at the school’s San Juan Capistrano field.

“This will be a top-notch scoreboard, one of the best for a high school field,” said Wooten. “Our team is extremely proud and excited to have such an amazing new scoreboard.  The community has wanted this for a long time, and it’s been a long time coming. But that makes it that much more exciting.”

San Juan Hills High School opened in San Juan Capistrano in 2007, and the school community has been steadily adding amenities every year. Wooten, his team, parents, staff members and supporters have been working toward installing a top-of-the-line, state-of-the-art scoreboard since 2008. After they received approvals from the school district this year, Wooten said, “the only thing missing was the money.”

One of the school’s parents put Wooten in touch with Schwartz, who donated $25,000—the bulk of the money needed to build the scoreboard—after an hour-long meeting. “Michael’s an amazing person,” Wooten said. “He’s clearly a dynamite entrepreneur with a passion for helping the community in any way he can.”

“We are honored to be able to contribute to this amazing school and athletics department,” said H. Michael Schwartz, chairman and CEO of Strategic Storage Trust, Inc., a publicly registered REIT targeting the self-storage market under the SmartStop® Self Storage brand name.  “Our goal is to help the local community build quality amenities for students, athletes and parents. A new scoreboard can make a huge difference in team spirit.”

The nine-inning scoreboard will take two months to produce, and Wooten expects it to be installed toward the end of the baseball season or soon after it ends.
