MALIBU – (March 5, 2014) – Celebrities, elected officials, the Malibu Chamber of Commerce and hundreds of shoppers celebrated the Grand Opening Wednesday of Vintage Grocers with a ribbon cutting ceremony, live demonstrations, free gifts and specials throughout the independent new market created for the Malibu community and the surrounding area.
“The City of Malibu and the people of West Malibu are just thrilled to have a local market,” said Malibu Mayor Joan House. “It’s just amazing.”
The mayor was among a crowd of luminaries at the Grand Opening that included supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband, entrepreneur Rande Gerber; actor Kevin Dillon; City Councilmembers Laura Rosenthal and Lou La Monte, and Malibu Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mark Persson.
“As a West Malibu resident, I know we are all so excited by this market,” said Councilmember Rosenthal. “It is wonderful inside.”
The first 250 customers received gift bags filled with Vintage Grocers’ products. Throughout the day, one lucky customer each hour won a Malibu Gift Basket filled with the very best of the store’s local products. Shoppers also found special pricing for steaks, produce, wine and other items throughout the store. The special pricing will continue throughout March 19 as part of the Grand Opening celebration.
“We are so excited to be open and to be part of this wonderful community,” said Eric Fuchser, Vintage Grocers market manager. “I thank the mayor, the Councilmembers, the Chamber and all our distinguished guests for helping us to celebrate this milestone. I especially thank the great Vintage Grocers team that has worked so hard to fulfill our vision for an independent gourmet grocery store custom-made to serve Malibu and the surrounding area with exceptional food and service.”
Hundreds of shoppers lined up early, with the line stretching around the corner and to the back of Trancas Country Market, where Vintage Grocers is located. Inside the store, customers found a full selection of organic, all-natural, international, Kosher, GMO-free and gluten-free food and products, as well as environmentally friendly packaging and products.
Vintage Grocers’ Juice and Coffee Bar staff provided fresh-squeezed juices, draft Kombucha, smoothies and Groundworks Coffee to the opening day crowd. The kitchen staff worked overtime to fulfill the demand for piping hot brick oven pizzas, freshly prepared sushi, homemade soups, garden-fresh salads and other delicious dishes to take home.
Shoppers found many familiar faces in the new store because Vintage Grocers has hired several local residents, students and former Malibu grocery store employees. In addition to the hometown team, shoppers discovered a wide variety of hometown products, including scoops of Beachy Cream ice cream and containers of the company’s ice cream. The Produce Department is stocked with One Gun Ranch fruits and vegetables grown in a nearby canyon. Its Grocery Department offers Malibu Honey, which is produced from local bees in local hives; Malibu OLIVE Co. olive oil; spices from Zuma Organic products, and organic soaps and skincare and baby products from Soap the Earth.
“We invite all our neighbors to come join us at Vintage Grocers where exceptional foods and relationships are deeply rooted,” Fuchser said. “We are here to serve you. Whether you are looking for something special for tonight’s dinner or preparing a holiday meal, you can count on us to be your knowledgeable and friendly resource on food and drink.”
