The large crane along Trabuco Creek is part of an effort to shore up the creek bed and prevent future flooding.
The Orange County Flood Control Division has found that the channel, constructed in the 1960s, has become susceptible to failure. Major storms throughout the years have only added to the problem, states a 2012 news alert from the city.
A more recent email alert says workers are in Phase 7 of an eight-phase project.
Interesting side note, the crane got to its current spot at the lightning speed of 1 mile per hour.
