Architect Michael Graves Doesn't See Hitler in his Teapot

He says the controversy was "incredibly stupid."

In San Juan Capistrano to celebrate the 30th anniversary of one his crown jewels, architect Michael Graves spoke to the media about the controversy earlier this year when some declared a teapot he designed to be in the image of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

Graves called the controversy “incredibly stupid.” Still, JCPenney, which sold the $40 tea kettle, took the billboard down.

Graves, though, had the laugh last, he said. After the media attention, the teapot sold out. You can still find them on eBay for about $75.

Oh, and we asked. Graves doesn’t drink tea! He says he uses the teapot to boil water for instant coffee.
