The Doo-Wah Riders will open the city’s 2012 San Juan Summer Nites concert series this Wednesday night at Historic Town Center Park. The free event is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 31852 El Camino Real.
The five-member country band has been performing for more than 30 years with country legends such as Garth Brooks, George Strait, Alabama, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Brooks and Dunn, Chris LeDoux, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, The Judds, Brad Paisley, Clint Black, Randy Travis, Leann Rimes and The Oak Ridge Boys.
The band possesses a unique, original sound that has been described as “high energy country with a Cajun twist.”
The band appeared in the movie "Basic Instinct", starring Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone, doing one of their own songs, "Glowing in the Ashes,” and recorded with Byron Berline on his Grammy nominated CD, "Fiddle and a Song.” Their most recent of seven albums is called “Obstacles.”
San Juan Summer Nites features an area for kids, food from local restaurants and businesses displaying their goods and services. Vintage Steak House, Orange County Rock 'n' Roll Chef and Funnel Cake Frenzy will be on hand selling food, while beer and wine will be available at the San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce booth.
Members from the city's adopted 1/11 Marines will be dancing to raise money for the troops. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and beach chairs but not pets.
The dates for future concerts are July 16, August 20 and September 17.
