PHOTOS: Students Get a GRIP on Free Turkeys

Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership of Orange County honors selected students with Thanksgiving care packages.

It's turkey time one week early.

Students from Kinoshita Elementary and Marco Forster Middle schools who are making improvements in reading, attendance and having no office referrals took home the big birds and all the trimmings Wednesday afternoon.

The reward is part of Orange County's Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership, which seeks to steer elementary and middle school-aged children away from a path toward gang membership.

Orange County Sheriff's Celina Corley and Julie Cisneros, along with Deputy District Attorney Lisa Grossman, were on hand to congratulate the recipients.

Twenty students at 43 schools throughout Orange County received awards. Ralph's grocery stores generously donated all the turkeys. Saddleback Church volunteers handed out certificates and bags of donated food, including a turkey and pumpkin pie for each student.
