Former Mayor Joe Soto Named Swallows Day Parade Grand Marshal

The line-up for the annual tradition is shaping up.

Former mayor Joe Soto will be the grand marshal of the 2013 Swallows Day Parade.

The annual event that attracts spectators from near and far is scheduled for Saturday, March 23,2013.

The privately run Fiesta Association announced the pick for grand marshal Friday. Other dignitaries recently announced are

Jim and Pamela Schuler serving as Señor San Juan and Miss Fiesta

Julian Cereghino will serve as Jr. Señor San Juan and Julia Delamare as Jr. Miss Fiesta as the junior dignitaries from Mission Basilica School

According to the Fiesta Association, Soto has a long and rich heritage in of San Juan Capistrano and the Swallows Day Parade. He takes pride in having attended every parade, missing only one when away for his military service, states a Fiesta press release.

Soto, along with seven brothers and four sisters, grew up in the historic Los Rios District. He and his wife Carol of 36 years have three daughters and a son and recently became grandparents to their first grandchild.  

Soto served as mayor of San Juan Capistrano in 2004 and 2008. 

“When I think back as a young student attending the old Mission School and participating in the Swallows Day Celebrations, never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine I’d someday be selected as the parade’s grand marshal,” Soto said in a statement. “I deeply embrace this honor and look forward to another great parade day in this beautiful valley.”

The grand marshals and dignitaries will ride among 120 parade entries featured in the 55thSwallows Day Parade in downtown San Juan Capistrano on Saturday, March 23, 2013.

Lon, I really don't understand the aggression that you're showing towards the council. Why don't you hold back on the negativity? Do you feel like your comments are "adding" anything positive?

So you call questioning the Council's commitment to be fiscally responsible aggressive? You must be so totally in the bag for the big 3.

Here is something positive, I am positive that when constituents stop questioning the actions of elected officials they must be living in North Korea
