Glassware Affects the Taste and Aroma of Beer

A primer on the importance of glassware is buried in a report to the San Juan Capistrano Planning Commission about a proposed beer-tasting room.

You all know I get paid the big bucks to scour the staff reports to the various governmental bodies to find items of interest. And buried in a report for a permit to open a beer-tasting room in San Juan Capistrano was a lesson on the important of glassware and beer.

We thought you’d enjoy this nugget of wisdom shared with the local bureaucrats:

“The type of glassware used to drink beer affects head, aroma, appearance, taste and experience,” wrote business partners Andrew Reed and Ron Bland as part of their proposal to the city. “It also will define a beer-drinking experience in The BrewHouse as one that is infused with appreciation for craft beer.

“Furthermore, the smaller-sized glasses reduce pouring volume for higher ABV [alcohol by volume] beers, allowing for a consistent, value-based price point and adding to the customer's perceived value.”

The BrewHouse, proposed for the Capistrano Home Center will hire a glass rinser to “to ensure all glassware is 'beer clean' before every pour,” they added.
