This week's calendar brings us three valuable kid-friendly activities centered on animals.

Where/When: 31791 Los Rios St., San Juan Capistrano; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
Why go: Because your children cannot resist the hundreds of cute, furry animals available for them to feed and pet.
Pricing: $6 for adults, $5 for children

: NATURE TRAIL LOOP
Where/When: Caspers Wilderness Park, 33401 Ortega Hwy., San Juan Capistrano
Why go: Get a breath of fresh air: Here is a map of the 31 miles of trails in Caspers. Since you'll have your kids with you, you might try the Nature Trail Loop, which is an offshoot of the Pinhead Peack Trail, and is accessible from the Old Corral Picnic Area. The short, bean-shaped trail is in the middle of the Dick Loskorn Trail, Quail Run and Oak Trail.

WHALE WATCHING
Where/When: Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching, 34675 Golden Lantern, Dana Point; noon and 2 p.m. daily 
Why go: We're in the midst of gray whale season. You're guaranteed to spot one of these baleen whales as they migrate south. If you don't, you'll receive a free voucher for another trip.
