Halloween Festivities in San Juan Capistrano

Pumpkin patches, a "cantina" party and a downtown "ghost walk" are among the ways to celebrate Halloween in San Juan Capistrano.

Pumpkin Palooza at 

Pumpkins small enough to adorn your table and those wider than your arm's width are for sale at 31791 Los Rios St,. Prices range from $1-$50 depending on the size. Other entertainment for kids includes a sandbox filled with corn kernels, $1 pumpkin-decorating kits and a corn husk and hay bale maze. For more information, call (949) 831-6550.

Before it opens in Thanksgiving Day to sell freshly grown Monterey pines and Leyland cypresses, the family-operated farm opens to sell pumpkins. During the weekends of Oct. 22-23 and Oct. 29-30, there will be a petting zoo and pony rides. The pumpkin patch--which also boasts inflatable bounce houses for kids--is open from 1 p.m. to dusk Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to dusk Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 31. Downtown Ghost Walk

On Oct. 29, hear spooky tales of headless monks, ghosts, the devil dog, the white lady and other spirits that have walked San Juan Capistrano's historic streets for more than one hundred years.

The San Juan Capistrano Historical Society offers a "ghost walks” at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 p.m. Tours depart from the O’Neill Museum at 31831 Los Rios St.  Donations are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Call for reservations: (949) 493-8444.

The only scary part about this late-night party is what bartenders will put in the restaurant's $5 "witch's brew." Other drink specials during the "cantina fiesta" include $5 margaritas and $4 well drinks. There's a $5 cover charge and grand prize for the winner of the night's costume party.
