Holiday Toy Express Returns to Capistrano

It bypassed San Juan Capistrano last year, but the toy express returns to San Juan Capistrano 7 p.m. Dec. 4.

After "scrooging" San Juan Capistrano last year, the Metrolink Holiday Toy Express will return to Verdugo Street on Dec. 4.

The 450-ton train adorned with holiday displays and 50,000 twinkling lights is embarking on its 32-city tour through six counties to entertain families and help collect toys for the needy.

Accompanied by musical performances, Santa will be the star of the trip.

The Holiday Toy Express is part of a 15-year tradition to help collect toys for the Firefighters' "Spark of Love" toy drive. Community members are encouraged to enjoy the holiday spirit by bringing unwrapped toys to the train station.

The train will arrive 7 p.m. Dec. 4.at the San Juan Capistrano train station on Verdugo Street in the Los Rios Historic District.

This year's tour will also pass through San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura, Los Angeles and San Diego counties.

The Holiday Toy Metrolink Express returned last night, December 15, along with Santa, not the 4th as it says here. When will you be posting that event from last night and will you have some photos of it? I was in Sarduccis and didn't go out to get many clear photos. Thank you.

This story is from 2011. This year, the "pre" information about the event is in the SJC Holiday Calendar on the front page as well as in an OC-wide calendar published at all the Patches.
