Local Students Pay Tribute to Boston Bombings' Youngest Victim

Mission Basilica second graders feel a special connection to 8-year-old Martin Richard, says a parent.

Mission Basilica School's second-grade class will be honoring the youngest victim of the Boston Bomb attack Saturday.

The children will be receiving their First Holy Communion at the Mission Basilica Catholic Church in San Juan Capistrano, according to parent Rachel Everett. They have made a banner with Martin Richard's name and each child's thumbprint, to exhibit in his honor.

Richard was laid to rest last week.

When the news of the April 15 bombings broke, Richard's photo was of him in a white suit holding his First Communion banner, Everett said.

"It touched the hearts of our teacher, parents and the children. Martin is the very same age as these second graders and also at the same place in his faith," she said.
