Move, Groove, Relax in City's Fall Classes

Yoga, ballet and tennis are among the classes being offered by the city of San Juan Capistrano this fall.

Registration is available for a host of fall recreation classes that cater to all ages.

Kids ages 1½ to 4 will get the "wiggles out" in the Tunes and Tales class that takes place from Sept. 21 to Oct. 19 at the La Sala Auditorium behind the library at 31495 El Camino Real. The music and movement class features sing-a-longs and finger-play songs and more, along with musical activities using bean bags, rhythm sticks, instruments and a parachute. For kids ages 1½ to 2½, the class is from 9:30 to 10:10 a.m. and costs $40. A class for ages 2½ to 4 follows from 10:15 to 11:10 a.m. and costs $45.

Teens can take Tennis lessons in six-week night classes Sept. 20 to Oct. 25 at the JSerra Catholic High School tennis courts, 26351 Junipero Serra Rd. Beginning and intermediate classes are available. Adults can learn how to improve their backhand in beginning and intermediate classes that start Sept. 21. Classes cost $99 for the six-week session.

Invigorate your passion for dance in the six-week Ballroom Dance class. Participants will have fun while learning new steps and meeting people with similar interests. The class is from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Nydegger Building at 31421 La Matanza. Classes run through Oct. 20. Cost is $36.

Promoting relaxation and flexibility, yoga classes cater to all types of individuals. The city is offering a host of classes this fall including Prenatal Yoga, Yoga and Meditation, Yoga for Stiff People and Flowing Yoga and Stretch. Classes range from $72 to $120 for the six to 10-week sessions.

Music Together is a nationally acclaimed children's music and movement program geared toward kids from birth to 4 years of age. The 45-minute class takes place from 9 to 9:45 a.m. and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Sept. 27 through Nov. 15 at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center. Activities are appropriate for children and easy for parent-caregivers regardless of their musical ability. Families participate together in songs, rhythmic chants, movement and instrument play. Songbooks, a CD and a tape for that session are included for continued learning and fun at home.

Kids ages 3-5 can embrace dance through the Ballet for Kids class that runs through Oct. 31 at 31421 La Mantanza. The 8-week session emphasizes proper technique, etiquette, creativity, flexibility, and coordination. The final class will feature a dance demonstration to display the skills the students learned. Students must wear their hair up in a bun and sport pink or black leotards, pink ballet shoes and pink tights. Cost is $75.

Children's Ballet is also available for children ages 5 to 13 that emphasize the American Academy of Ballet performance award proficiency, technique and coordination. The classes run through Nov. 4 and cost $75.

Youth ages 7-18 are invited to learn the various Folklorico dances of Mexico while building self-esteem and confidence in the Ballet Folklorico dance program. Participants are provided with colorful costumes and perform at different city and community events. The 11-week program runs through Dec. 6.

The co-ed Children's Beginning Karate class for ages 7-14 is from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. through Oct. 21 at the community center, 25925 Camino del Avion. The class teaches basic Shotokan karate blocks, punches, kicks and stances, along with traditional karate etiquette, manners and morals. It is a non-contact activity intended to increase focus, concentration and confidence. The cost is $35 for the seven-week class.

Adults and youth 14 and older can take the co-ed Adult Beginning Karate class that follows from 6 to 6:50 p.m.
