New Mission Gift Store Opens Saturday

Residents and visitors to San Juan Capistrano can enter right from Ortega.

There's room to browse.

The spacious new gift store at Mission San Juan Capistrano, part of the project that included re-doing the main gate house, will finally open 10 a.m. Saturday, about four months after the ticket sellers moved into their new digs.

The gift store is now set up that you can shop without having to enter the Mission first. An open door to the public faces Ortega Highway.

The Mission Store will feature and promote a wide range of merchandise from local, national and international artisans, according to a Mission pres release.

Meanwhile, the space the gift shop occupied for all these years, the historic Sala building, will become museum space, according to the Mission.

Net proceeds from purchases at the Mission store help protect the religious and historic significance of MissionSan Juan Capistrano, and further educational programs, exhibits and preservation efforts. Active members receive a 10 percent discount on most merchandise.
