No. 17: The Allure of the Bells

The ringing of the bells in San Juan Capistrano cinched the deal for one famous couple, who decided to make the town their permanent home.

, a producer, director and documentary-maker, was with his soon-to-be wife, Stephanie Heredia, enjoying drinks at the El Adobe Restaurant.  “I heard the bells from the Mission and she asked if I would move here,” he recalled. It was one factor in the couple settling here about eight years ago.

Whether it’s the old Mission bells, which rang out during the St. Joseph Day (aka Return of the Swallows Day) celebration, or the bells from the 104-foot tower of the Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano, the sounds can be a soothing reminder of gentler times.
