St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church of San Juan Capistrano enticed all different groups of people with what organizers hope was the first of many Greek Festivals.
Sophia Konugres, wife of festival chair Sam Konugres, talked about the immense amount of work put into such an event.
“My husband had a vision to do this festival three years ago. We had a very low budget, but because of word of mouth and God's will, this happened.”
The festivities included live music and performances, Greek dance instructions, and church tours lead by Father Bill Tragus.
There was fun for the whole family, with Henna tattoos and balloon animals. The food was abundant, ranging from delicious Gyro sandwiches to rejuvenating Greek coffee. All of the food was specifically Greek, even including Loukoumades, a Greek donut from a recipe from the baker’s very own ya-ya (grandmother).
