SJC Composer Hosts 'Video Games Live' with Pacific Symphony at Verizon

Tommy Tallarico has been composing music for video games for more than 20 years.

Over the last 25 years, music in video games has certainly evolved beyond the catchy, chord-less, single-note, beeping tunes of classics like Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros (though we can all hum along to that one, right?).

That fact will be made resoundingly on Wednesday when "Video Games Live," a production hosted by San Juan Capistrano composer Tommy Tallarico, debuts at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. The show starts at 8 p.m.

The concert will feature dozens of classic and contemporary scores from a wide variety of video games, which will be performed by the Pacific Symphony.

According to the Daily Pilot, Tallarico has been composing music for video games for more than two decades. It's the first time that he is bringing "Video Games Live" to Orange County, however, after launching the show in 2002.

Among those participating in the concert will be guest composer Austin Wintory, who earlier this year became the first composer to win a Grammy Award for a video game score. His production in the Playstation 3 game "Journey," won for Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media.

Tallarico did not tell the newspaper the full setlist for the evening, but did say that tracks from "Final Fantasy," "Castlevania," and "Street Fighter II" would be in the program.

Tickets for the concert range from $25 to $75.
