VIDEO: President Kennedy Remembered in San Juan Capistrano

Local filmmakers Robert Kline and Stephanie Heredia bring a new documentary to the Regency Thursday.

With the 50th anniversary of the President Kennedy assassination, there are sure to be a lot of “where-were-you’s” asked this week.

Those seeking to remember and those who weren’t alive yet have an opportunity to check out a DVD that recently hit the stores, JFK Remembered 50 Years Later.

But residents in San Juan Capistrano can see it on the big screen.

Debuted two weeks ago in Boston, writer-director (and San Juan Capistrano resident) Robert Kline’s movie will be shown 7 p.m. Thursday at the Regency.

“Rather than commemorate the assassination, we’d rather focus on the 1,000-day president of John Kennedy,” said Kline, whose wife, Stephanie Heredia, co-wrote and produced the film.

For those who were around, and even in the American psyche, Kline said, Kennedy is “frozen in time,” a man who left us when he was young, handsome and charismatic.

This isn’t the first cinematic take on Kennedy for Kline, who teaches a class on Kennedy at the University of Southern California. In 2008, he released a documentary about the Kennedy family as America’s royalty.

Kline, who calls himself a “Kennedy Democrat,” Kline doesn’t toe the party line too hard. In 2011, he released a complimentary documentary on President Reagan
