Amtrak Train Crashes into Truck in San Juan Capistrano

No one was hurt when the train crashed into a disabled vehicle on the track, but at least two other trains are halted during rush hour.

An Amtrak train slammed into a disabled vehicle on train tracks in San Juan Capistrano late this afternoon, backing up commuter traffic for Metrolink passengers.

The Amtrak train from San Diego was headed to Los Angeles when it struck the vehicle just west of San Juan Capistrano about 4:30 p.m., said Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds.

No one was in the vehicle, and none of the 95 passengers on the train were injured, Leeds said. The train was back on the move by 5:45 p.m., she added.

Metrolink spokesman Jeff Lustgarten said 333 Metrolink passengers were stopped on one Metrolink train in Laguna Niguel and another train behind it was carrying 334 passengers, Lustgarten said.

Metrolink set up a "bus bridge" to get the commuters around the accident, Lustgarten said.
