Water pressure is low and non-drinkable water lines have been turned off. There is no estimate for when full service may be restored.

Water pressure has been reduced in six San Juan Capistrano neighborhoods as city workers try to stop a water main leak along San Juan Creek Road.

The city sent a reverse 9-1-1 call to residents in the following areas:

  • San Juan Creek Homeowners Association
  • Rancho San Juan
  • Hunter’s Creek
  • Paseo Riobo / Paseo Michelle
  • Blenheim
  • San Juan Creek Park
The notice asked them not to irrigate landscaping and reported that non-potable water lines have been shut down completely. Meanwhile, drinking water lines are experiencing reduced water pressure, according to an alert from city officials.

The leak is between Paseo Christina and Camino Lacouague.

"They’re just at the beginning of their investigation," said Francie Kennedy, water conservation coordinator for the city. As to when the leak might be repaired and water pressure restored, "We’re not going to commit to a certain time frame yet until we know what we’re dealing with."

There are two water lines that traverse San Juan Creek Road, Kennedy said, drinkable and non-drinkable, or non-potable. The non-potable lines serve the common areas of the nearby homeowners associations and do not connect to homes.

"We’re just asking people to use water for essential needs," she added.

The water and the workers are not impeding traffic.
