Storm Causes Mud and Rock Slides on Ortega Highway

Caltrans crews are clearing the lanes of the remaining debris.

The powerful storm that pounded the region this morning has caused rocks and mudslides along State Route 74 (Ortega Highway) at the county line.

Just after 12:30 p.m. today, California Highway Patrol officers removed a series of boulders in the east and westbound lanes. Caltrans officials are expected to have the remaining debris cleared this afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the worst of the damage is centered at the 16-mile mark. With few drivers braving the 74 on this rainy day, the debris hasn’t caused any serious backups.
