Big Gulps, Slurpees on Their Way

San Juan Capistrano is finally getting its own 7-Eleven.

Attention teenagers: The Slurpees are coming.

Jim Adam, who operates the Spirit gas station at Junipero Serra Road west of the I-5 Freeway, has been working for seven years to bring a 7-Eleven to San Juan Capistrano. Finally, he’s about 1½ months away from achieving that dream.

“I think we owe some JSerra [Catholic High School] students who are now in college some Slurpees,” Adam’s wife, Brenda said.

Adam said students come in all the time, seeking their favorite 7-Eleven guilty pleasure.

He’s also ditching Spirit and adding a 76 franchise for the gas.

Adam said processing the plans through the city and working with the landlord are some of the reasons for the delay.

There are three 7-Elevens in San Clemente and even Laguna Niguel has one, but until now, none in San Juan Capistrano.

And just in case you’re interested, the term “Slurpee” was first coined in 1967, according to the 7-Eleven corporate website.
