Cancun Comes to San Juan Capistrano

A new restaurant opened Friday, named after the resort city.

Another Mexican restaurant has come to town, this one with the name of a famous resort city in the Yucatán.

The owners of Cancun Authentic Mexican Food opened their second outlet Friday afternoon to a room full of city dignatories, chilled Mexican beer and taquitos.

The first location is in Huntington Beach and has received high marks for food quality from online reviewers.

The location is where once Taqueria El Coyotito once served up its brand of Mexcian food.

Co-owner Antonio Hernandez of Costa Mesa said Coyotito was more like a bar.

"I like to sell more food than beer. I want to make this a family restaurant. That's my dream," he said.

With more than a dozen Mexican joints in town, Hernandez said he'll make his mark with an authentic flair and seafood specialties. On the menu are such items as "felete de pescado a la plancha," a grilled fish plate, and "mojarra frita," a whole fried fish.

"This is something we enjoy more than anything," said Mark Bodenhamer of the San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce, " which is opening new businesses."
