Cockroaches Spotted Twice at L'Hirondelle

County health inspectors closed the high-end restaurant twice recently after finding cockroaches.

Since late August, health inspectors have twice found cockroaches at L'Hirondelle, a restaurant that offers pate, escargot and filet mignon for dinner customers.

A county inspector found "numerous cockroaches" of different ages near the dish washing machine on Aug. 29. Six minor violations were also observed, including house flies. After a follow-up inspection, the restaurant reopened Aug. 30.

Then inspectors found cockroaches again on Sept. 19. Again the insects were found near the dish washer. From the county health department's report:

"One straggling adult was observed on the floor under the dishmachine and one active nymph was observed on the dishmachine drainboard and immediatley (sic) eliminated. No other live or dead cockroaches were observed. Pest control methods were utilized again the night prior to this inspection. Pest control was contacted during this inspection and requested to visit this site today."

The restaurant was allowed to remain open. It will be reinspected Oct. 3.
