A San Juan Capistrano company is helping jurors in New Jersey check if they’re needed for a trial via text.
Since first being made available in June, 50,000 people have signed up after getting the call-to-jury-service notices, according to a press release from TextPower. The state averages a bit more than 200,000 people reporting to jury service each year.
When standby jurors sign up for the service, they get text messages reminding them of their service coming up a week in advance, according to the press release. Then, when the big day occurs, rather than showing up or even calling in, a text will inform jurors if their presence is not needed.
