New Color Scheme Proposed for Del Taco

It would be the second change this year to the fast-food restaurant.

Del Taco has come up with some new exterior colors just for San Juan Capistrano.

In February, the entire chain moved to a new color scheme in what corporate insiders called an “ambiance shake-up.” But corporate officials forgot to ask the city for permission.

When they sought retro-active approval, the color palette – what members of the now-defunct Design Review Committee called “sour apple” green and “Chinese red” – didn’t excite city leaders.

Del Taco corporate officials have now come back with a more subdued pallet. The green roof tiles are proposed to be replaced with tan tiles. Chinese red would be replaced with a copper color called “pennywise.”

“Much time has been spent creating a brand new look and we feel that these colors will enhance the existing building,” wrote Del Taco representative Mark Raber in a letter to the city. “The proposed changes are consistent with the look of the area and such changes will not affect the health, safety or welfare of the residents in your city.”

The Planning Commission will discuss the new color palette at its Tuesday meeting, which starts at 6 :30 p.m. at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto, San Juan Capistrano.
