New Ralphs Aims for Aug. 3 Opening

The massive construction project to renovate the grocery store on El Camino Real is nearly complete.

The $9 million renovation and expansion of the El Camino Real Ralphs grocery store is nearing completion.

The store is aiming for an Aug. 3 opening, according to a company spokeswoman.

"There is something in every corner of the store they're working to finish up," said Ralphs spokeswoman Kendra Doyel.

She said the Aug. 3 opening date is tentative; the firm doing the renovation, AGI General Contracting, could still run into delays.

Workers Friday were pouring the concrete sidewalks that will line El Camino Real along the Ralphs property frontage.

The small strip mall on the property was demolished to add parking and make way for the expansion.

Actually, I have a minor in Spanish. Spanish architecture is heavily influenced by Moroccan -- hence Muslim -- architecture because of that country's 400- to 500-year occupation of southern Spain. It wasn't until Ferdinand and Isabella that the Moors were expelled for good. In fact, almost every Spanish word that starts with "AL" is actually an adapted Arabic word. Just some food for thought.

Adam, nice to see someone thinking for a change. These people IMO need a better hobby. The new Store is beautiful and I love all the landscaping. It is a far cry from the sad old building there before. We are lucky to have such a face lift to the area. Everyone always whined about the old store. Everyone called it ghetto Ralph's. This is a good thing. Furthermore the Rib trader was once great but for the last 5 or so years it was just a bar always with the local drunks hanging out outside smoking. This is so much better.

So Lindsey is of the opinion that she is the type of person who should be commenting here, yet those of us who disagree with her "need a better hobby"? Then she continues her rant with out right lies " Everyone always whined about the old store. Everyone called it ghetto Ralph's." Sorry Lindsey, those whiners were you and those who agree with you. NOT "everyone".

Ha! Sue you are too funny. Wait...you weren't trying to be funny? I hope you read Adam's reply. Time to become informed about basic history and architecture before you blast.
