Newport Chef Heading South to San Juan

Pascal Olhats closed one eatery this weekend and plans for a new base of operations in Capistrano.

Chef Pascal Olhats, who’s run several Newport Beach restaurants, is coming to San Juan Capistrano.

OC Weekly posted an email Olhat sent out to loyal customers announcing the closure of Pascal Epicerie at 1000 Bristol St. North, effective Saturday. In it, he announces a two-part plan for the future, and one of those parts includes coming to San Juan Capistrano.

Ohlhats says he will open up retail, dining and catering at 1451 Rancho Viejo Road No. 103, previously the home to Skimmer’s Panini Café in the Ortega Ranch office industrial park.

“This location will be a retail store (like Pascal Epicene), plus have dinner service, a wine tasting room, and offer full event and catering services,” Olhats wrote. “We will be retailing in association with OC Baking Company, bakers of some of the best artisan breads around.”

Meanwhile, Olhats is also looking for another Newport Beach location, he wrote.

“Two prospective spots are being considered, one close to Bristol Street and, the other, on 17th Street. This second location is planned to be in operation by early 2015,” Olhats wrote.
