Roaches Close Mission Viejo Chinese Food Spot

Various evidence of cockroaches were found by health inspectors in the restaurant that has since reopened.

Health inspectors closed Asian Pearl restaurant earlier this month after finding live and dead cockroaches in various locations.

Live bugs were found in gaps between sinks, under the cooler and between wall panels on Nov. 15. Dead ones were found beneath the freezer and storage shelves, and beneath a gap in the stainless steel table where the rice cooker is stored.

An exterminator treated the restaurant the same day.

Inspectors followed up Nov. 16 and allowed the restaurant to reopen. The owner said all surfaces were washed, rinsed and sanitized after the treatment, and cracks and gaps on tables, sinks and other spots were sealed.

Thanks for your response, but, with all due respect, I am speaking of an establishment in Mission Viejo (I won't name it here, and I have never been there) listed on the official County of Orange web site as having been closed on October 30 and re-opened on Oct. 31, with a second inspection last week and no resolution listed as of today. HEALTH PERMIT SUSPENSION 10/30/2012 REASON FOR PERMIT SUSPENSION/CLOSURE COCKROACH INFESTATION HEALTH PERMIT REINSTATEMENT 10/31/2012 FOOD FOLLOW-UP- 2ND+ INSPECTION 11/20/2012 Evidence of Vermin Activity/Presence of Animals/Insects I cannot find it on this web site. If it is there indeed, I would appreciate you pointing it out and accepting my apologies for raising this issue.

Yes, I'm familiar with that restaurant closure. I'll be writing about it later this week.

Good to hear.... given that the AP violation is from November 15 - two weeks after the one you will be writing about later this week, you appear to be working backwards chronologically, and will be getting to 'news' from last summer, last year, last century soon? That raises a whole other set of 'journalistic' questions... but never mind. Its your web site - you certainly may do as you wish. Not even sure why I even care but I have always admired the AP people for their entrepreneurship and hard work and dedication over the years. Plus, even my husband likes their food. As if it isn't hard enough for a mom and pop shop to make it these days, I find this selective reporting most unfair. Given the fact that the 'other' restaurant is a chain, and the issue seems unresolved even today, I find it unfair to both the AP owners and workers, as well as the other restaurant's customers. Just my opinion. In any event, I sincerely appreciate your response. That is more than can be said for some Patch 'journalists'.

I understand your wish to defend a favorite neighborhood restaurant. If you want to leave them a positive rating, you can do so here: http://missionviejo.patch.com/listings/asian-pearl-restaurant You can also see our reports on other cockroach infestations at local restaurants. These both happen to be chains: http://missionviejo.patch.com/articles/cockroaches-close-mission-viejo-simply-fondue http://missionviejo.patch.com/articles/mission-viejo-pizza-joint-closed-for-cockroach-infestation

Greater than my wish to defend a favorite neighborhood restaurant is my desire for a fair and balanced press, regardless of political / financial pressures or personal favorites.. one of the things that makes societies worth living in. Or not. But a gal can dream....
