Big Lots takes a Big Tumble, while other locals hit 52-week highs. Then there's the one with a 30-year low. It's a wild ride!

The markets were up a bit this week, but boy did we experience some volatility right here in San Juan Capistrano.

Big Lots Inc. took a Big Tumble this week.  The drop has two law firms already starting the research to see if there's a potential lawsuit there on behalf of shareholders (and themselves), according to Reuters.

The trouble began on Monday, when the company warned that its same-store figures may not grow this quarter because sales slowed in March and continued into April, according to MarketWatch.

Unphased, fellow discounter Dollar Tree Inc. hit another 52-week high and breeched the the $100 mark. However, Daily Finance says in light of Big Lots' troubles, it may be time to cash in the profits. Petsmart Inc., Sempra Energy and The TJX Cos. Inc. (Marshall's) also hit a 52-week high this week.

That's not to say we don't have a few dogs. 

Forget measuring things in 52 weeks. Radio Shack Corp.'s price has fallen to a 30-year low! The freefall continued when it announced its recent earnings, or rather, losings, reports the Wall Street Journal. The stock is fast approaching "junk" status.  

Speaking of bottom feeders, word is Rite Aid Corp. is ripe for picking off by either Walgreen Co. or CVS (Caremark Corp.).

Lots more earnings reports: Chevron Corp. came in right in line this week with the street's expectations, earning $6.47 billion in net income, or $3.27 a share, reports Dividend.com. Competitor ConocoPhillips' earnings were down from its last report, to $2.9 billion on weaker production, but per-share earnings increased to $2.27 from $2.09, according to the Wall Street Journal. UPS Inc.'s profits were down as the global market slowed. Earnings tripled for Safeway Inc., but were still considered sluggist by analysts. OK. Starbucks Corp. beat the street by a penny. But the stock is still down. OK squared.
