The SJC 25 Stock Report: Feb. 26, 2012
Gas and retail outlets reined. Everything else did not impress this week.
Editor's note – In this feature, we check on the health of the Fortune 500 companies that have a presence in San Juan Capistrano.
Unless you were an oil giant or retailer, it wasn't a particularly good week for you.
Chevron had a 3.61 percent incline on the week and ConocoPhillips a 5.12 percent leap. Hmm. The same week we publish .

Yelp is going public next week. We wish them luck, but we're pretty stuck on our own listings, which offers a lot more info.

Earnings reports: While Q4 earnings came in at a robust 16 percent for Dollar Tree, next quarter's estimate is less than analysits predicted, according to MSN Money. The stock went down a bit and then came back up. TJX Cos. reported earnings in line with what the experts predicted but was rewarded because that's 17 percent better than last year at this time. Safeway beat the street's estimates. Petco and Costco are taking a leap and reporting their latest earnings Wednesday (Feb. 29, for those who don't get my puns).

Bank of America is looking to expand its presence in China, says Stocks and Shares. It hopes to add five more branches there in the next two-three years. I looked up how many bank branches there are per population, and the rates vary from one branch every 80 people in Manhatten (!!) to one every 20,566 people in Bangladesh. I think BofA has a ways to go.
Chevron also announced it is expanding its presence into China and will explore for shale gas in China’s Qiannan Basin. Anyone detect a theme?
