What's the Best Burger in San Juan Capo?

Who serves up the best burger in town? Vote for your favorite place in our Best of San Juan Capistrano Patch poll.

There's nothing like sinking your teeth into a juicy, mouth-watering burger.

Patch is banking that its readers have their favorite burgers, and we want to find them. Whether slathered in bleu cheese or special sauce, whether flanked by sesame seed buns or sourdough, whether the lettuce is leafy or chopped, whether shouldering bacon or mushrooms or both, there are a million combinations of burgers.

Patch will be designating a "Best Burger in Town" award to one establishment in San Juan Capistrano.

The winner might come from a burger chain, an indie burger joint or a hoity-toity restaurant. The champ could be all-beef, or an ahi tuna burger. Every place, and every burger, is unique.

Once we get nominations, we'll have a poll for readers to vote for the best burger and a forum to debate the issue because, really, that's going to be just as fun.

Nominate your favorite burger in the comments, or email Penny.Arevalo@Patch.com with "BEST BURGER" in the subject line.

The presidential candidates can talk about health care; we want to talk about how to clog our arteries. Or, if you're into low-fat, tell us about your favorite veggie burger.

The best burger. Bring it on.

And bring an order of fries with it.

Here are some possible choices (let us know if we have left out your favorite):

Nominate your favorite before Friday at 5 p.m., and we'll include it in our poll. We'll start voting on Monday, Feb. 27. If there's a tie, the location with the most positive comments and reviews will win.

Lisa's Kitchen at Swallows.

No question at all. Sundried Tomato Cafe has the best burgers!
Penny Arévalo (Editor) February 22, 2012 at 12:12 AM
Thanks, Steve. I have added Swallow's Inn. As a pesca-vegetarian (yes, I do realize that's an oxymoron), I need all the help I can get with this one!
Penny Arévalo (Editor) February 22, 2012 at 12:20 AM
OK, I added a bunch of burger photos, just to get the juices flowing, so to speak. :-)
Jennifer Pointer February 22, 2012 at 03:01 PM
Ok, I have two. For the bar burger, Lisa's at Swallow's. For a sit down, the lamb burger with truffle fries at Sundried Tomato. So yummy.

Got an email this morning, another vote for Lisa's Burger at the Swallows Inn. Seeing a trend here.
Roxwell Hafdahl February 22, 2012 at 06:22 PM
Rocky Hafdahl Hands down, it is the burger at L'Hirondelle. Probably the best burger in Orange County. Pricey, but worth it.
Penny Arévalo (Editor) February 22, 2012 at 07:02 PM
Thanks, Rocky. I have added L'Hirondelle to the list.

THE VERY best burger isn't in Capo. It's at Turk's in the harbor. I'm constantly on the lookout for a good cheeseburger & Turk's consistently comes out on top.

I have a feeling this is going to be juicy competition when the voting launches
Cal Grimes February 22, 2012 at 11:41 PM
This contest won't even be close. Lisa's Kitchen at the Swallow's Inn has the best burgers around. Just be sure to have lots of napkins on stand by.
Betsy Stokke February 23, 2012 at 02:26 AM

If you're a food truck foodie, Capistrano Valley Christian Schools just sent out this: Please join us for CVCS First Ever Burger Throw-down on May 19th. You will get to see six burger competitors throwdown the burger gauntlet and our specially selected judges will taste and judge the burgers and choose the winner. We are bringing in Food Trucks to feed the masses and advertising to our community, so bring the kids! There will be a bounce house and activities. Invite your friends and neighbors and help cheer on the competitors! We hope to see you there! 11 am to 2 pm

I'm like you Penny - a pesca-vegetarian but my husband Ted, a true carnivore, claims Vintage Steakhouse has the best burger. Having said that, I don't think he's tasted the burgers at Lisa's Kitchen at Swallows -from the votes, I think he'll be trying one there soon!
Anna February 24, 2012 at 07:58 PM
Lisa burgers and Lisa's veggie burgers are without a doubt the best!!
Shawn Brown February 24, 2012 at 08:55 PM

Tannins Restaurant just opened a new place above it, and they make an outrageously good burger too. They’re not on this list?
Penny Arévalo (Editor) February 25, 2012 at 04:34 PM
They're there. They were first called The Palm. Then it became Montego.

Gotta be LISA'S KITCHEN. Big, juicy, all the trimmings and the friendliest "cook" in town. P.T.

Karen Stine February 27, 2012 at 11:47 PM
The best burger in town is definitely Lisa's Kitchen at the Swallows Inn! Even my Mom from the midwest says "The best burger I have ever had is a Lisa Burger", as a matter of fact she flew here from Illinois just last week so she could have one! The grilled cheese and patty melt are winners too!
Susan Phillips February 28, 2012 at 03:20 PM
I'm with Steve. Lisa's Kitchen at The Swallow's Inn has the best burger in South County. Yum! Yum!
Dennis Umana February 28, 2012 at 11:22 PM
How can I go about posting pictures of some of the burgers we have here at Montego restaurant
Penny Arévalo (Editor) February 28, 2012 at 11:42 PM
