BLOG: Deputy Dog Visits Tree of Life Nursery

Deputy Dog paid a visit to one of San Juan Capistrano's "hidden treasures"--the Tree of Life Nursery--where California natives are available to the general public.

Last Saturday morning, we all jumped in my dad's truck and headed up the Ortega Highway to a place a lot of you don't know even exists!

It's called the and it's about 7 miles east of the freeway.  They only grow and sell California native plants, and you'll be surprised when you see how many varieties are available.

You can spend the morning just walking around the acres through all the trees, listening to the birds and being amazed at how beautiful California native plants could look in your gardens.

There is also a small gift shop that carries books, gardening items and delicious local honey.

If you're so inclined, the nursery also hosts classes for the general public, and you can view the schedule on their website or visit them at 33201 Ortega Highway, San Juan Capistrano. It's a tricky left turn into their driveway, but the drive is beautiful and well worth it!

You'll notice in one of the pictures that dogs aren't allowed, but I wanted to make the trip to show you one of San Juan Capistrano's "hidden treasures!"

Happy trails!

Deputy Dog, Gus
