Update: Storm Moves In, Heavy Rain, Flash Floods Expected

Orange County is expected to receive up to 2 inches of rain, with localized amounts up to 5 inches.

A powerful cold and wet storm will bring periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms to the Southland through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is expected to drop 1.5-3.5 inches of rain in coastal areas of Orange County, and 3-6 inches in the foothills and mountains, with the greatest chance of thunderstorms on Saturday, the National Weather Service reported.

Rainfall rates could reach an inch an hour, enough to cause flash flooding.  A flash flood watch for Orange County was put into effect at 1 p.m. today.
