Civilians Join Adopted Marines for Annual Mess Hall Fundraiser
Marines and civilians dined together at the Marbella Country Club in San Jan Capistrano for the city's Second Annual Mess Night fundraiser Thursday benefiting the 1st Battalion, 11th Marine fund.
About 50 civilians clad in tuxedos joined Marines in their Dress Blues Thursday night at the for the city's Second Annual Mess Night fundraiser.
Proceeds from the dinner, which costs $125 to attend, benefit the families of the San Juan Capistrano's adopted 1st Battalion, 11th Marines. The money funds baby showers, home repairs and the like for the families while members of the artillery battalion are deployed.
In Mess Hall tradition, money was also raised when diners levied fines upon eachother for not following the night's rules: no cell phones, no cocktails at the table and no talking without permission from the president of the mess.
