Patch Picks: Take Me out to the Game

Shake off your Lakers-loss blues by supporting one of San Juan Capistrano's high schools' games.

Editor's note: As much as your editor wants you to support our local high schools' talented players, in no way does she condone the elimination of the Lakers from the Western Conference playoffs.

The Lakers are finished for the year, and the Angels are out of town for the weekend, but there are still opportunities to catch some high-quality sporting events this weekend. Watch what are bound to be some close match-ups as the area's high schools wind down their springs sports seasons. 

Here are our picks for the weekend's marquee match-ups:

  • closes out what has been a successful regular season of baseball Thursday night with a home game against St. John Bosco in what will be the Lions' Senior Night. The Lions are currently ranked third in the state by MaxPreps.com.
  •  will host both the boys and girls' U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section Orange County Championships Thursday night, beginning with the girls' game at 5 p.m., when third-seeded will take on top-seeded .
  • Fresh off their South Coast League championships, both the boys and girls teams at will enter Saturday's track and field Division 1 preliminaries at with high hopes. Junior Toni Usgaard will lead the girls team's efforts after winning two individual events and also running a leg on the Dolphins' winning 1,600 relay team. Devin Harrison will look to pace the boys' team by competing in the 200, 400, 1,600 relay and the long jump. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with running events set to start at noon.
