Penny-Sized Hail Hits Capistrano

Thunderstorms moving north along the Orange County coast bring hail and rain to San Juan Capistrano.

Just days after a heat wave brought 90-degree temperatures to San Juan Capistrano, penny-sized hail clattered into town early Saturday.

A group of showers and thunderstorms from San Clemente to Laguna Beach moved northwest along the Orange County coast, the National Weather Service reported.

The storms brought hail and rain to San Juan Capistrano at about 7 a.m.

There's a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 72 degrees, forecasters said.
