Smoother Ride Coming to San Juan Capistrano

Caltrans appropriates $16 million to repave the 5 freeway from Oso Road to Highway 1.

Expect smoother travel on the 5 freeway between Mission Viejo and San Juan Capistrano starting next year, Caltrans officials announced Thursday.

New paving will be laid on a rough, 7.7-mile stretch of the freeway from Highway 1 to the Oso Creek exit. Work is expected to begin by the end of this year.

On Thursday, the California Transportation Commission (CTC) allocated $825 million in new funding to 92 highway, transit, and rail projects, of which Orange County will receive $16 of the $21.5 million needed for the pavement rehab.

on a one-mile stretch of the freeway from Camino Capistrano to south of San Juan Creek Road. The $13.2-million project includes widening the San Juan Creek bridge and a segment of Camino Capistrano.
