The Great Escape: Hidden House Café

Meet moms Emily Smith and Kristie Houk Cain. Each week, they'll help you bring the focus back onto yourself.

Your teens are holding a car wash at the high school Saturday. The grandparents volunteered to take the younger children to a movie Sunday afternoon. Your tweens take a tap on Wednesday evening. It’s your time. Take it.

Each week, we’ll deliver a podcast that will give you a much deserved break, and
make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

Our First Podcast

This is Moms con Vida's inaugural podcast, featuring introductions to Kristie Houk Cain and Emily Smith, the San Juan Capistrano Moms con Vida, and their not-so-secret clubhouse,
the Hidden House Café. Learn about the moms’ deep roots in San Juan Capistrano beginning in 1978 and extending to their new BFF, Izzy at the San Juan gas station. The moms’ first recommendation is a hearty endorsement of to all moms for their relaxing and chatting pleasure. It's a bonus that the hot chocolate comes with a smile-inducing heart on top.

So take a bubble bath and hit the play button ... here's to your first "great escape."

About Emily and Kristie

Kristie and Emily grew up together in San Juan Capistrano and have been friends for more than 30 years (but who’s counting).

We’re mothers of five children between us from toddler to teen, and we feel your pain of trying to be a good wife and mother while still having a life. We bring fun and ideas every week at Patch for things to do, places to go and things moms love in San Juan Capistrano—and some comic relief,  because as moms we need that more than clean laundry!

Kristie is an elementary school teacher and sign language interpreter, doing neither currently for pay, but volunteering her services in both areas and loving it. She is wrapping up her master's degree to become a marriage and family therapist.

Emily is a Libra who enjoys long walks on the beach, candlelit dinners and little fuzzy bunnies. Wait, that’s not it .... She is actually the mother of three, parenting without a license. She's also an experienced bankruptcy attorney with the heart of a teacher. Counseling individuals and family in tough financial times gives her great joy.
