A Ribbon-Cutting for Horses, Sorta

A 109-acre ranch the city acquired in 2008 finally gets its official christening.

If you’re on horseback in Dana Point, you can now make it all the way to Saddleback Church’s Rancho Capistrano campus thanks to a newly dedicated trail in San Juan Capistrano.

On Saturday, city leaders dedicated not only the trail but the whole 109-acre parcel, known as 2C Ranch, which the city acquired in 2008.

“When the city purchased the site, nestled at the end of Old San Juan Road, it was in disrepair and not easily accessible by visitors,” states a city press release. “San Juan Capistrano Open Space Foundation volunteers improved the site by installing amenities like split-rail fencing, picnic tables, a watering trough and hitching post.”

The city also received a $1.5 million grant from the Orange County Transportation Authority for habitat restoration.
