20 States Re-thinking Their Adoption of Common Core State Standards

In 2010 forty five states rushed to adopt Common Core State Standards because adoption of the standards were tied to waivers from No Child Left Behind and Federal Race to the Top funds.

The Motivation For The Adoption of Common Core States Standards Was Financial Incentives And Not The Quality Of The Standards Themselves.


Twenty States are now in the process of rejecting the National standards in order to maintain State sovereignty. 

Example of how the Federal Government is using financial incentives to force the adoption of the CCSS-

On September 9, 2013 US Education Secretary of Education Arne Duncan threatened to withhold Federal Funds from California if the Legislature voted to approve Assembly Bill 484 which stopped student testing while the State transitions from California State Standards and STAR testing to Common Core State Standards and the new Smarter Balance Assessments.

California education could lose as much as $3.5 billion in federal funds, if the federal government imposes sanctions against California for passage of AB 484.

Truth In American Education is following Legislative activity in those States that are delaying withdrawing from PARCC or SBAC, delaying implementation of Standards or assessments, or not funding the implementation of Common Core State Standards in order to maintain what they feel is a States right to control Education.
