RAISE THE BASE! California Is Underfunding K- 12... Schools Are Hurting!

The Capistrano Unified School District just released a Chart showing California Per Pupil Spending Compared to the National Average and the picture isn't pretty.

Governor Brown promised to change the way education is funded and promised that under the New Local Control Funding Formula that schools would be better off. Unfortunately the new funding formula assures Districts that they will remain broke for years to come.

California's "new" Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) law changes the way the State funds school districts. The new law provides a universal base grant of $6,500 per student then gives those Districts with a higher population of disadvantaged students more funding.

Under the new law CUSD will receive $6,773 per student. Not much when you compare that to the average for the State o California and the United States.

Per Pupil Spending

  • Capistrano Unified School District 2014- 2015: $6,773

  • Average in the State of California: $9,139

  • Average in the United States: $10,560

  • I encourage Parents and the Public to contact your legislators and ask them to raise the Base Funding Grant to $9,500.
