How Will You Spend Your Child's Future? Paying for Employee Retirements or Educating Them For The Future?
The LA Times just published an article by Jon Healey entitled "Gov. Brown offers schools a bitter pill to heal CalSTRS.

According to the article Jerry Brown plans to make STRS solvent in 30 years by requiring greater contributions to STRS from the State, the Employees and the School District... unfortunately, the lions share of expense will go to individual school districts that have been underfunded for years.
- Teachers contributions will increase from 8% to 10.25% over the next 3 years
- The State Contribution will increase from 5.5% to 8.8% over the next 3 years
- Districts Contribution will increase from 8.25% to 19.1% over the next 7 years
According to the article it is estimated that a Districts CalSTRS contribution will increase from 3.3% of a Districts total budget to 9.6% of a Districts total budget.
CUSD Total Budget is $330 million so:
- 3.3% of $330 million is just under $10 million per year
- 19.1% of $330 million is $33 million per year.
In order to increase payments to STERs by that amount would mean that the CUSD budget would need to increase by $33 million per year just to keep pace with the new STERS contribution requirement. Not to mention that we will never receive enough funding to pay STRS, Reduce Class Sizes, Restore Furlough Days, and restore programs, build a new school and bring our buildings up to code.
Jerry Brown will tell you to raise local taxes.
The State of California is constitutionally obligated to provide a basic education for every student- no mater their race or ethnicity ... no matter how wealthy or poor.
Jerry Brown wants you to pay your taxes so that he has excess revenue to pay for things like High Speed Rail and Driver Licenses for illegal immigrants and then he wants you to fundraise , or tax yourself at the local level to pay for what he is constitutionally obligated to pay for.
Just Say NO- and VOTE him out of office.
