American Cancer Society Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event in San Juan  starts at 10:00 am Saturday June 30 and ends at 10:00 am on Sunday July 1 at the  San Juan Capistrano Sports Park, located at 25925 Camino Del Avion.

Admission is free, and even if visitors aren’t part of a team, they can still enjoy food booths, a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses and a continuous stream of  excellent live entertainment.

The program opens at 9:00 am Saturday with a few words by the Mayor, Council members and Ted Roberts, Event Chair.  Survivors walk the first lap, joined by the Marines, the Mayor's wife Chris, and other cancer survivors.

At 9 p.m on Saturday., a Luminaria Ceremony will feature bagpiper Steven Megarity performing “Amazing Grace” as cancer survivors, family members and care givers take a lap around the track, lined with candle lit luminaria bags, each one in remembrance and celebration of those who have survived and those who have lost their lives to cancer.

On Sunday morning, Julio Montero and his daughter, Claudia, will perform a harp and guitar duet during a breakfast prepared by the San Juan Capistrano Rotary Club and Ricardo's Place. The closing ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m.
