South OC Gears Up for Turkey Trot

The annual set of Thanksgiving Day races in Dana Point will raise money to help support local Marines.

The Dana Point Chamber of Commerce is swamped with prepartations for this week's Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot race, officials say.

"It's Turkey Trot all the time right now," said chamber Executive Director Heather Johnston.

The  10- and 5-kilometer races at the Dana Point Harbor Thursday are expected to host more than 11,000 people and gross $350,000, the profits of which will go to support the Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group.

"Get here early and give yourself plenty of time," Johnston suggested to racers and spectators. "The Harbor is the first place people go for parking, but also park along side streets."

The following is a listing of race day events:

  • Registration, 6 a.m.
  • 10k, 7 a.m.
  • 5k Masters, 8:30 a.m.
  • 5k Open, 9:30 a.m.
  • Mission Hospital Kids Gobble Wobble, 10:15 a.m.
