Listen my friends and you shall hear...

...not of the midnight ride of Paul Revere, but the midnight walk of me!

One week from tonight, I hope I am here telling you that we made $150,000!  But we cannot do that without your help.  I am a committee member of the 10th Annual American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of San Juan Capistrano.  We have spent months putting together a great event for you to enjoy.  With a variety of live entertainment on the main stage, an awesome kids camp, themed rounds, raffles, food, etc., this should be an event to remember.  It is great fun for the whole family and you can get more information about the event by visiting our website at www.RelayForLife.org/SanJuanCapistranoCA.  We hope you come support our event and help us show the other cities around here who is number one!!!!!

Now, about the midnight walk..... I have not been a committee member for all 10 years, but I have been a participant.  I walk from midnight to 4 a.m. for my team.  My mom takes over for me then so I can catch a few winks, then I come back to join my niece and nephew as they do their laps.  The first year, there were only two of us on the track at two in the morning, now there are a couple dozen.  I would love to see even more.  Since that first night, I have taken it upon myself to keep the luminarias lit and I am proud to say I have not burned a single one in all those years.  I know how much it means to me to see the luminarias my family has decorated and I am sure it means as much to others.  I would feel bad if someone arrived at 3 in the morning and their bag was not lit, so that is why I have made it my personal mission to keep the fires lit.

I also enjoy walking during the night hours as they are cooler and quieter.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE all the fun activities at the Relay during the day, but I do not do well in the sun.  I can sit under a canopy and enjoy the music during the day, as long as I do not have to walk much on the track.  That is another reason I enjoy my midnight shift.  Are you wondering why we run the Relay for 24 hours?  Because cancer does not sleep and neither do we.

So this is what I will be doing next weekend and I hope you will come join us.  Not convinced yet?  This week, I will blog some more about the activities at the Relay and I hope you and your family will make plans to join us.
