Two-Stepping Under the Stars 2013

Although I will admit to getting to the event right at the start and ducking out before things really got jumping, I could see the annual Barn Dance was set to be another successful night!  This year’s theme was Two-Stepping Under the Stars and while it was still a long time till the stars came out, the two-stepping was already in action.  There was a full floor of dancers in their best bibs and tuckers taking dance lessons before the Kelly Boyz took the stage and kicked things off with a little “Mountain Music.”  Many people kicked up their heels with more and more people joining all the time.

Bad to the Bone had their mobile restaurant set-up and I’d love to tell you what vittles they were selling, but I had dinner plans elsewhere and did not want to brave the lines to see the menu.  From what I could see (and smell) from the people coming back with their plates, the food was up to the regular restaurant quality we all know and love.

The kids zone got supersized this year!  When you first walked into the event, you were greeted by a face painter, a caricature artist and funny photos booth.  To keep the kids active, they had a “combat” ring, a laser tag house and human hamster balls.  My niece enjoyed last year’s offerings, but I would have never gotten out of there anywhere near on time had she been with me this year!

The raffles and silent auction items looked very interesting, but you had to be there to win the raffles/ protect your auction bids, so I did not participate this year.  The casino area was still setting up under the trees when I left, but I think it would have been fun to play under the stars and twinkling lights I could see in the trees.  We had loads of fun at the casino last year.  I learned to play craps and my niece learned to count to 21!

I hope that the San Juan Equestrian Coalition had a successful evening and that they keep this format again next year.  If so, I am definitely going to make plans for the whole family to dust off their Stetsons, shine their boots and mosey on over to the 2014 Barn Dance and I hope you and yours calendar it as well.  Sad that you missed this excuse to get your cowboy on?  Buck up, the 2013 Rodeo is right around the corner!!!
