Textbook Is History

Kudos to the CUSD Board of Trustees for refusing to purchase the 6th Edition of World Civilizations: The Global Experience.  It is disappointing that a text so obviously flawed made it through the textbook review committee.  But is it really that surprising?

As reported by The Patch, reviews of the text were not positive.  Those members of the review committee who voted against its adoption found it especially leftist in portraying world events.  One of the members actually called it "Marxist" and a trustee referred to it as "sludge".

The publisher admitted it was written not to take a pro United States view of history.  Apparently, in the world of academia, this is seen as high praise.

What's wrong with a little pro United States bias?  I love my country and was proud to serve in its armed forces in the 1980s and again after 9-11.

I grew up watching Disney programming like Johnny Tremain and Davy Crockett.  America was good.  We respected the flag.  Now our education system is racked with college instructors who spew anti America venom and high school teachers who mock Christians.

This textbook is just part the greater problem of tearing down traditional Americana.  The Boy Scouts of America are portrayed as the bad guys while Planned Parenthood is praised for its killing of unborn babies.  The list goes on.

That is a global perspective I can do without.
