PHOTOS: It's Hollyhock Season

It's that time of year to admire the pale pink, fuchsia and burgundy flowers that grow on stalks.

It’s not only tourist season in San Juan Capistrano, it’s hollyhock season as well.

Every year, they seem to rise from nowhere and can easily get 6-8 feet tall. Apparently at one time, my lot was filled with hollyhocks because even to this day, I get people knocking on my door to ask me where they went. Of course, they’re still here, you just have to look harder for them.

So the pink, fuchsia and burgundy flowers – which I’m told once were used to make hollyhock dolls – had me hunting San Juan Capistrano for more. They weren't hard to find at all. These photos come from the Montanez Adobe, the Tea House on Los Rios and even Mayor John Taylor’s home (with maybe a photo from my front yard thrown in for good measure).

Enjoy!
